Flora of formosa
Unspeakable Shadow
220×145 cm
2024
Inspired by Zhou Mengdie's 1975 poem Days of Accumulated Rain, each butterfly in this work emerges from traditional paper-making, with delicate edges formed as they lift from the water. The black butterflies are colored using ink tree dye, and their wings are inscribed with words from old Zhou-era books, reviving the beauty of letterpress printing. One side of the screen filters light to create dancing shadows, while the other side is filled with ink-dyed butterflies, resembling a poetic scroll from nature.
